Six Countries, Seven University Hospitals, Thirty-Six Residents Trained
SOUTH AFRICA - When Ethicon and The European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS) recently partnered to promote professional resident training through simulation, they turned to The Chamberlain Group (TCG) for the ideal trainer to fit the bill. Their objective: to train residents in the complexities of cardiothoracic suturing, in grafting and anastomoses, with a ‘simple’ trainer; i.e., one that was easy to transport, reusable, and reasonably priced. Understanding that success in training hinges on tools that are as functional, durable, and accessible—as they are anatomically accurate -- is central to The Chamberlain Group’s approach.
In their video “Upon this Thread a Life Depends,”Ethicon and EACTS, led by past president, Dr. Paul Sargeant, from the University Hospital Gasthuisberg, Belgium, embark on a training tour in South Africa. The video demonstrates why TCG’s Heart LAD CABG Pod is not only an excellent simulator for bypass grafting when performing drills within TCG’s Robotic Trainer, but ways it can be used as a stand-alone trainer for coronary artery anastomosis. The pod holds one section of native coronary artery which can be anastomosed to any TCG graft vessels. Since the native arteries within the pod are replaceable, the pod’s use is extended over multiple trials.
