TSDA Boot Camp 2019

The Chamberlain Group has contributed innovative tools for medical learning to TSDA Boot Camp each year for the past 10 years. The course provides an experiential foundation and crucial hands-on practice in basic CT surgery operating skills – valuable experience for surgical residents and faculty alike . While Boot Camp 2018 was cancelled due to a hurricane, this year’s event engaged 60 cardiothoracic surgery residents. The result? Aspiring surgeons are now better prepared to enter the operating room at their home programs.

The Heart Cases and Pocket Vessel Anastomosis Trainers used at TSDA Boot Camp were developed by The Chamberlain Group in collaboration with Dr. James I. Fann, MD. A pioneer in the field of immersive and simulation learning and TSDA Boot Camp Program Director, Dr. Fann approached us with the premise that limited exposure and visualization, compounded by technical complexity, had adversely affected resident training in mitral valve surgery. With this in mind he envisioned a heart trainer that was anatomically accurate and compact enough for travel. The Chamberlain Group delivered Heart Case, a portable, safe, and cost-effective training platform for repeat and deliberate practice. Heart Case: Case Study
