Surgical Sam for General Surgery Training (#4096)
Surgical Sam for General Surgery Training (#4096)
Surgical Sam for General Surgery is an advanced training model that allows medical teams to practice emergency and operative procedures in a realistic environment. Featuring lifelike physiological functions, replaceable organs, and remote-controlled bleeding scenarios, it provides comprehensive hands-on experience for surgical and crisis management skills.
$25,000.00
Specialty: Critical Care,General Surgery,Pediatric
Overview:
Surgical Sam for General Surgery enables teams to train for scenarios in the emergency department and operating room.
It features realistic physiological functions including inflatable lungs, bleeding vessels, and simulated electrocautery response.
The model includes a thorax and abdomen with an intubatable airway, ventilatable lungs, liver and gallbladder, esophagus, stomach with attached mesentery membrane, small bowel with rooted mesentery, colon, and inferior vena cava.
Our Team Trainer Features:
- The liver and inferior vena cava have independent blood flow, and the model can simulate diffuse surgical bleeding in a fluid-tight abdominal cavity.
- Bleeder sites on the abdominal IVC are hidden by the small bowel and colon.
- Sensors in the bleeding liver respond to the simulated electrocautery pen, offering visual and auditory feedback.
- Hemorrhagic events at each bleeding site can be controlled remotely, supporting pre-planned scenarios and real-time clinical responses.
- A radial pulse can be simulated using a handheld bulb or the optional Beating Heart Controller with Pulse.

Effective pediatric critical care relies on training models that accurately replicate children’s anatomy and physiological responses during surgery.
We offer two pediatric surgical team trainers—Surgical Sam General Surgery and Surgical Sam for Cardiothoracic Surgery—developed in partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital. The modular system represents a 14-month-old infant and includes an intubatable airway, incision- and suture-compatible skin, and bilateral radial pulse. Emergent resternotomy and redo laparotomy scenarios have been repeatedly performed with both trainers by full OR teams as part of a multi-year study under the guidance of the BCH Simulator Program (SIMPeds) director and principal investigator, Peter Weinstock, MD, PhD.
These trainers support critical surgical steps and provide immersive simulations to improve performance, safety, and outcomes for infants. They are designed for multi-disciplinary team training scenarios.
